Yellow Weather Warning. Autumn Colour Options.

There goes Summer, not just any Summer but one of the hottest on record.

Time, belligerently I might say, to bring out the heavyweights or lightweights depending on the temperature. As I write it's blowing a hooley outside, first of the storms to hit the UK. It's lashing rain and Yellow Weather Warnings in place for two days here in the South West, time to bring out the waterproofs and for me yellow is the colour to bring a ray of light on a dreary day. I have three (is that too much?)

My go-to is an oh so comfortable hooded shower-proof mac purchased a few years ago online brand Tu Clothing quite a trend setter with navy and white striped lining in the hood. The next is a sleek hooded raincoat excellent quality with statement button fastenings and trims from Roman, smart for town and city wear perfect for not so cold Autumn days. Lastly a warm, ultra cosy padded rain-proof parka from Regatta perfect for hiking on the moors or walks on a windy beach in rain and snow. There's a removeable hood and fur trim perfect for the transition from Autumn to Winter.

I do have other coloured parkas, khaki and black never go out of fashion, red and blue are available in a variety of  brands but the yellow is spirit-lifting for me before the dark days of Winter and I can be spotted in a crowded street, on a long beach or an isolated moor a bit like an old time fisherman on a rough sea.

Traditionally Fishermen's oilskin jackets, bib n braces and hats were yellow including the original 'Sou'wester

FYI A 'sou'wester' is a waterproof oilskin hat with a brim longer in the back to protect the neck, originally worn by seamen in the 1830s-1840s to guard against the wind and rain of a southwesterly storm. The name is a shortened form of southwester, a strong wind from the southwest that brings rain to the British Isles. The hat's design, with a deep crown and flaring brim, provided excellent protection from the elements and was later adopted and adapted into fashionable wear.

BTW. Paddington Bear wore his 'Sou'wester' and its upturned brim with a duffle coat and wellingtons
