Warm Red on Winter Nights

Let’s face it the real competition on the X-Factor is the style–off between glamorous judges Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole. Each week the girls have sashayed through those famous star-maker sliding doors wearing an array of opulent frocks and designer gowns. According to press and web reports, Dannii took the lead in the 2011 fashion stakes but it must be said that both these little fashionistas looked their most stunning in red. Dannii looked fresh and vibrant in a 50s style prom dress by Emilia Wickstead for the X Factor photo call last week. Cheryl was equally alluring in a shimmering A. J. Mendel gown on the X Factor Final. A primary colour guaranteed to warm up cold days or nights best worn with subtle make-up accentuated by eye-popping red lipstick. Make an entrance this Christmas in  full length drape gown from Notte By Marchesa dress  Accessorize with Moschino Cheap & Chic Red Cocktail Ring Clutch

In addition Dannii wore some of her own designs during the X-Factor Auditions and Live Shows. Project D which launched this year, is the debut fashion range by Dannii Minogue and London-based designer Tabitha Somerset-Webb. The label is the result of their friendship and shared views on fashion and style incorporating chic cocktail dresses, red-carpet glamour, stylish daywear and accessories.

Best Dressed at the Races. Get ready for The Ladies Day Calendar
The summer season will start in earnest with the Grand National at Aintree on Saturday 10th April. The whole nation loves a bet in the Grand National and this year 40 runners and riders will be under starter's orders for what is one of the most celebrated horse races in the world. The very first winner of this ultimate test of endurance was "Lottery" in 1839 and probably the most famous winner of all-time was the great "Red Rum" who won in 1973, 1974 and 1977. The most famous loser, however, was "Devon Loch", owned by Her Majesty The Queen Mother. In 1956 "Devon Loch", ridden by Dick Francis, suddenly collapsed just 50 yards from the finish. While race pundits check out the odds and equestrian form, race watchers look forward to Ladies Day and the fabulous fashion forms when the only test of endurance is whether ladies can totter in killer heels and keep their hats on.  Coast have a collection of exquisite race day dresses and accessories. For your winning outfit you can choose from over 120 beautifully crafted dresses in this seasons’ key trends, shapes, colours and prints.  We have featured a selection of our favorite pieces from the  Coast Spring and Summer Collection

Under Starter's Orders - Racing Colours: Blue, Purple & Red. A pastel palette and floral prints

In the Grandstand - Racing Colours: Red and white and all things bright

In the Paddock - Racing Colours: Sea green and floral flourishes

Winner's Enclosure - Racing Colours: Black and white graphic delight

Tradionally an Easter Bonnet was a straw hat adorned with ribbons and spring flowers. Irving Berlin quite literally wrote a "sonnet" about an Easter Bonnet, it featured in the iconic 1948 musical "Easter Parade" which starred Judy Garland and Fred Astaire. The film also included Astaire & Garland's best known songs "Steppin Out with my Baby" & "We're a Couple of Swells"
Irving Berlin Easter Parade Lyrics:
"In your easter bonnet, with all the frills upon it,
You'll be the grandest lady in the easter parade.
I'll be all in clover and when they look you over,
I'll be the proudest fellow in the easter parade.
On the avenue, fifth avenue, the photographers will snap us,
And you'll find that you're in the rotogravure.
Oh, I could write a sonnet about your easter bonnet,
And of the girl I'm taking to the easter parade."

It's great that today hats and hair accessories are very much back in vogue and not just for special occasions. Feminine flower clips, floppy hats and fascinators, traditional panamas, sun hats, straw boaters and trilbies. Principles by Ben de Lisi

For Spring Summer 2010 Debenhams were delighted to relaunch Principles, one of Britain's biggest and best-loved brands back on the high street, with internationally renowned designer Ben de Lisi at the creative helm. The collaboration is hugely anticipated by customers all over the UK, with Debenhams experiencing overwhelming customer demand for the brand's return. Thousands of searches have been made on their website and store staff have been inundated with enquiries. There are approximately 5 million loyal Principles customers in the UK, so Principles by Ben de Lisi is finally a destination on the High Street for them to shop once again. Under Ben's creative direction, Debenhams is moving the brand back to what it is celebrated for; a timeless, modern collection with a designer twist aimed at the discerning fashion lover. The price position will be lower than before without compromising quality or style. Distilling the essence of the Principles signature style, Ben has taken classic pieces and reworked them to create a collection of elegant day and weekend wear that can easily be dressed up for evening or worn in the office. A dominant monochrome and navy colour palette is punctuated with a bold injection of scarlet, electric blue and yellow. Geometric stripes and kaleidoscopic prints are used playfully on softly structured tailoring, separates, shift dresses and dress cots. Star products include the classic belted tipped mac, cropped boxy jackets, pleated skirts cut just above the knee, and cool linen Capri pants. Crisp cotton poplin shirts and loose fit silky tunics feature border prints and delicate appliqué florals. The Principles by Ben de Lisi collection will hit stores in February 2010 and be made up of 106 pieces of weekend, smart day, occasion and eveningwear as well as a comprehensive petite offering of 46 pieces, complimented with handbags and accessories.{productsuniverse_d1_designers}%2Fcategories%3C{productsuniverse_d1_designers_18661}%2Fdesigner_group%3E{ben20de20lisi}&langId=-1&sfn=DESIGNER&storeId=10701&pn=1

You don't have to be a member of the literary set or be in show business to look like a celebrity in 2009.  It's "lighting up" time on the High Street and online stores have made it easy for us common folk to join the glitterati for the festive season. Ultra glam pop stars like Cheryl Cole, Kylie, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Katie Perry, Pixie Lott, VV Brown, La Roux, Little Boots and Alexander Burke have brought some extra sparkle to our lives wearing a host of quirky outfits and accessories with embellishments such as glass tiles, coloured beads, frogging, oversize zips, studs, discs and sequins . Dresses, tops, tights, shoes and cocktail rings in jewel tones are still top sellers if you prefer to make a more demure entrance in "Precious Partywear". If you're not quite sure what colours fit the brief then be inspired by these vibrant stones Amethyst, Emerald, Garnet, Ruby, Sapphire and Topaz. Diamonds are, of course, still a girls best friend and a pair of diamond stud earings will complete any outfit. Floaty, frilly, fringe, tassel and net details also feature strongly as well as girlie frocks in nude or Blush tones as seen on Aleshia Dixon, Dannii Minogue and Holly Willoughby. The 80s V-shape vibe continues with painterly masterpieces, graphic designs , asymetric dresses and sharp shoulders on sequin jackets, spencer jackets and waistcoats. An LBD is always in vogue and has been a classic wardrobe staple for decades. LBD style icons include today's No1 Fashionista, Victoria Beckham, and Audrey Hepburn, star of the 60s movie "Breakfast at Tiffanys" (©FFS 18/11/09)
