Vintage Denim. All style Jeans in focus.

Covering all media and socials it seems to be all about denim at the moment, not sure 'double denim' will be back but jeans in all shapes and styles definately are. A recent Levi advert featured them all: Straight leg, Barrel leg, Wide leg, Slim leg, Skinny, Ankle Grazer and Flared.

The original Boyfriend jeans were men's work jeans, Levi's 501 and on "May 20th, 1873, the world’s first blue jean received its official patent – a day Levi Strauss commemorate each year as “501 Day.

In the 1950s, Marilyn Monroe was one of the first women to wear the 501 jeans in the film, 'River of No Return' and also in her last film 'The Misfits'.

Although a women's version of the jeans was introduced in the U.S. in the 1930s ideal for farm and ranch workers only the mens version were available in the UK and they were embraced by the 60s fashion savvy girls. To make the denim a little softer, get rid of excessive deep blue dye it was common to jump in a bath full of water which also achieved a shrink to fit. Things changed somewhat in the 70s when flares came into vogue, it was common then to embellish jeans with embroidery and badges, inserting slats in old jeans to give a more flare bottom vibe. Denim in all styles followed including midi skirts, shirts and jackets (double denim) , dungarees, pinafore skirts and shorts.

Going into the 80s it was all about 'Daisy Dukes' those super, short frayed denim shorts usually fashioned by cutting down a pair of old worn out jeans. The shorts were made famous by Daisy Duke played by Catherine Bach in the Iconic TV series 'Dukes of Hazzard'.

Women's traditional jeans went slightly out of fashion in the 90s mainly due to khaki cargo pants having a hey day as seen on the super cool British girl group 'All Saints'.

The old Levis featured here are well over 30 years old, they are splashed in paint have a few tears and holes, but still wearable, and would now quite fit into the distressed vintage trend. I think it's safe to say jeans are genious.
